Matthew 2.1-2
Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him."

Our God is a God of plan, purpose, design and objectivity. He doesn't function aimlessly or mindlessly.

In Genesis 1:16 we see God as the creator of stars. In Genesis 15:5 we see God again as representating the seed of Abraham as stars. In Gen 37:9 we see the eleven brothers of Joseph each represented as a star and In Matthew 2:2 we see the birth of Jesus registered with the appearance of a star.

This tells us Jesus was born a star, if this is true then it therefore means we too are born stars because we are made and created in His image. As He is so are we .

A star is a fixed bright and shining celestial body in the night sky. It is a body that shines brightly especially in the dark. The duty of every star is thus:

1. To give light at night. Jesus speaking in John 8:12 " I am the light of the world". The world was full of darkness and Jesus said "I am the light of the world" in other words I am come to give light to the world.

Anywhere darkness is reigning it is because light is absent, anywhere confusion is reigning it is because light is absent. The reason for the coming of Jesus was to check out darkness and confusion that has become the order of the day in the world and and set the world in order. Matthew 14:15, Joh 1:4 confirms to us that we are the light of the world and God expects us to shine in the place where He has placed us (Gen 1:16-17)

2. The second duty if the star according to our anchor scripture is for Direction. The desert traveller, if they must travel they travel at night where they use the 3 northern stars as their compass for navigation because every point in the deserts looks almost similar. So a star is a guiding light.

While the birth of many is registered in the hospital, the appearance of a star registered the birth of Jesus.

When the wise men saw this star, they knew an usual person had just been born. Jesus was an usual star because His birth affected the course of Nature. The three wise men when they saw His star they knew something has been altered in nature. The star they saw wasnt the normal star they where use to seeing. So In John 2:9 Jesus affected the course of nature by turning water to wine, In John 6:9 He multiplied 2 fishes and 5 loads of bread to feed over five thousand men excluding women and children, He defied the law of nature by walking on water.

This unusual star seen by the three wise men went before the wise men and led them to he place where Jesus the messiah was.

The meaning of that is: Jesus (The shining and guiding light) has the capacity to order the steps of men to where He is. And if we truly are stars as Jesus is, then our light ought to lead and direct men to Jesus.

1. His birth brings about the shining light that has the capacity to drive away darkness filled in the world today

2. His birth brings about the guiding light that directs and leads men to His presence, so men can worship Him

3. The bible told us in Matthew 2:2 that the wise men addressed Jesus as KNING ( which means Royalty).

I thought kings are born in a royal hospital and not in a manger. But Jesus the king was born in a menger. The greatness of the king of all the universe was was hidden in a menger and in the smallness of a child.

Hear this: our God is the God that hides greatness inside smallness. GOD chooses to hide greatness inside smallness so that people dont destroy you or frustrate you before time. No wonder Herod the king whose position was threatened sought for ways to destroy Jesus.

We pray for you today: May the shining light of Jesus that comes as a result of his birth drives away every trace of darkness in and around your life in Jesus name.
This season of Christmas May His guiding light guide, direct and lead you and others to Jesus's presence.
